November 6, 2024: Belmar Elementary School (BES) recently hosted a powerful and engaging assembly on October 30, 2024, aimed at promoting drug prevention and mental health wellness. Sponsored by the Tigger Stavola Foundation (TSF), the event featured Dr. Matt Bellace, a clinical neuropsychologist and acclaimed speaker known for his advocacy of “natural highs” as a healthier alternative to substance use.
Dr. Bellace, who has reached over a hundred thousand people through his work, brought humor and empathy to his presentation, captivating students from BES and neighboring HW Mountz School. Drawing on his expertise in neuropsychology and over 20 years of speaking experience, Dr. Bellace offered strategies for stress management, resilience, and making positive life choices. He illustrated his points with personal stories, highlighting the importance of mental resilience and community support in overcoming life’s challenges.
The assembly, which included references to recent local events such as the Manasquan High School basketball incident, resonated deeply with attendees. Dr. Bellace’s approach combined educational content with relatable anecdotes, leaving a lasting impact. “Matt’s assembly was very informative and entertaining,” said Jaylaa F., an eighth-grade student. “I really enjoyed his stories and jokes.”
Principal Sarah Wilton expressed her pride in BES’s commitment to student well-being. “Our students’ mental health is as crucial as their academic success,” she said. “Bringing in speakers like Dr. Bellace reflects our dedication to fostering a supportive environment.” Superintendent Jimmy Alvarez also praised the event’s success, noting, “The feedback from students and staff was overwhelmingly positive.
